Knitting Academy

This is the original Knitting Academy created by Jenna Hycner. A number of sessions will be a repeat of what was offered previously but I’ve added content to each topic.

What is the Knitting Academy? It is a program developed to help you take your knitting to the next level. You will learn new skills, ways to perfect your technique and to perfect your finished project. Here is your chance to raise your craft to the next level. In the Knitting Academy, we will cover topics that will improve and enrich your knitting.

Knitting Lace with Beads

 Instructor: Debbi Bowanko

Skill Level: Very advanced beginner/Intermediate

How many knitters see a lovely lace shawl and think, “I could NEVER knit a

lace shawl.”  This class will teach you that knitting lace is much easier than it

looks, it’s just one stitch at a time. And to make things even simpler, my design

only uses five different stitches!

Fair Isle – the Ninilchik Swancho

Instuctor:  Jenna Hycner

Skill Level: Very advanced beginner/Intermediate

Fair Isle is an amazing colorwork technique that can create some spectacular designs.  This is a wonderful project if you are new to or want more experience with fair isle knitting.  Your instructor, Jenna, teaches the traditional, two handed Fair Isle Technique.  Colorwork, in your instructor’s humble opinion, is a lot of what makes knitting fun.  The fun doesn’t end there – what could be more fun than a poncho with sleeves?  Your instructor loves sweaters like this, so much more comfortable than a coat – it is a poncho with sleeves!

Have you always wanted to learn how to knit socks but were intimidated by the tiny, sharp needles and thin yarns? Then Socks 101 is the class for you! Using a thicker, worsted weight yarn, students will knit a cuff-down sock - learning sock "architecture" and sock knitting techniques for the cuff, heel flap, heel turn, gusset & foot, and toe. These thicker-weight socks are the perfect boot-sock or lounging-around-the-house sock!
